Whether you have formal training or not, this workshop is for you. We will show you how everyday movements can become dance when we integrate editing, framing, and speed. Video cameras and editing give us an amazing tool to frame movement. This exciting workshop is led by industry professional Shandoah Goldman. Students will come away with a short dance film!

A meditation on current social interactions in public space and social media. The film documents a performance experience on Mad Bowl Field at UVA. Audience members communicated with the performers solely via their mobile devices, creating a dance without the use of eye contact or spoken words. Researching questions of belonging, integration, isolation and the significance of connection in our socially changing landscape of technology.

After the screening of Social Dance there will be an immersive experience for the audience to try out the movement score with each other and their phones.

A screening of Horse Teacher, a documentary featuring Gail Todter at her farm in Afton where the film was shot

A cinematic portrait of equine artist Gail Todter. Her life-long story of working with horses beyond riding them, takes us on her journey of what it means to be human and the lessons that could have only been learned from an animal much larger than her. Filmed on her dreamy farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, we have an intimate encounter with a woman who is a student of the horse and the space in which her ride unfolds. We will listen to her words from the pages of her journal, which she handbound herself. Her horses, dog, cat, garden, turquoise chaps, tractors, and yoga studio are the arena for which she takes the reins, loosens them, leads with certainty, releases into wild pastures to graze on the nourishment of what feeds her most.
